Scientists estimate that the volume of blood in a human body should be approximately 7 percent of the body weight. Blood is composed of more than 4,000 different kinds of components out of which four of them are most important. Those are red blood cells, white blood cells,\u00a0platelets, and plasma.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Red blood cells are produced in bone marrow. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and carry back carbon dioxide from the tissue to lungs<\/li>\n<li>Most of the white blood cells are produced in bone marrow and others are produced in the thymus gland, they are responsible for immune function in our body<\/li>\n<li>Platelets are produced in bone marrow that works with blood clotting chemicals at the site of wounds<\/li>\n<li>Plasma\u00a0is the relatively clear, yellowish fluid which carries the red cells, white cells, and platelets throughout our body<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Iron Deficiency Anemia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are different types of anemia among which iron deficiency anemia is the most common disorder of the blood which is affecting about a quarter of people globally, a\u00a0moderate degree of iron deficiency anemia has\u00a0affected approximately 610\u00a0million people and mild iron deficiency anemia has affected 375\u00a0million worldwide.\u00a0It is slightly more common in females than males.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are at risk?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anemia occurs when body lack red blood cells or red blood cells fail to perform properly. Women\u00a0who are menstruating or pregnant are most at risk. The normal hemoglobin range is generally defined as\u00a0<strong>13.5 - 17.5<\/strong>\u00a0g\/dl of blood for men and\u00a0<strong>12.0 - 15.5 g\/dl<\/strong>\u00a0for women.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anemia has greater symptoms which may include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Weakness,\u00a0Feeling tired,\u00a0Increased thirst,\u00a0Shortness of breath,\u00a0Sore tongue,\u00a0Poor ability to exercise,\u00a0Dizziness and feeling like one is going to pass out,\u00a0Lightheadedness upon standing,\u00a0Fast or irregular heartbeat,\u00a0Confusion,\u00a0Headache,\u00a0Cold hands or feet,\u00a0Pale or yellow skin<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is Anemia Preventable?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eating healthy and\u00a0iron-rich\u00a0foods can help you avoid both iron and vitamin B12 deficiency anemia, but not all types of anemia.\u00a0To prevent iron deficiency anemia, the optimal thing you can do is to ensure you get sufficient iron in your diet, at times when your body requires extra iron, such as during pregnancy or breastfeeding, boost your iron intake even more with food and talk to your health care professional for iron supplements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foods to include in your diet:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Red Meat,\u00a0Poultry,\u00a0Seafood,\u00a0Dark leafy greens like\u00a0colocasia\u00a0\u00a0leaves, spinach,\u00a0Beetroot,\u00a0Egg yolks,\u00a0Legumes,\u00a0Oatmeal,\u00a0Peanut butter,\u00a0Apricots,\u00a0Soybeans,\u00a0Iron Fortified cereals,\u00a0Dried fruits such as almonds, raisins, prunes, dates, nuts, figs, pistachio,\u00a0Honey,\u00a0Jaggery,\u00a0Fruits like watermelon, pomegranate<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Try to add high vitamin C to all iron rich foods as it enhances iron absorption<\/p>\n<p>Daily multivitamin supplement can also help prevent nutritional anemia<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our body contains an average of 5-6 liters of blood.
